Types of Sentences I
Types of sentences are differentiated based on the intention of the speaker/writer. A statement transmits information to the listener/reader, e.g.:
A question means that the speaker would like information from the listener/reader, e.g.:
A question can also be expressed using an indirect interrogative sentence, e.g.:
A command or request sentence is uttered by the speaker/writer to prompt the listener/reader to do something:
To make a request very politely, the request (e.g. a favor or advice) can be formed using the past subjunctive (subjunctive II) or the form würde + infinitive, e.g.:
